The Chairman and Chief Executive of LUBCON Group, Engineer Jani Ibrahim, has received the UNILORIN debaters who won the Grand Finale of the maiden edition of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA)’s debate championship.

The UNILORIN Debate Team became the overall African champion after triumphing over the Kwame Nkrumah University, Zambia team in a closely contested debate that took place on August 22, 2023, in Lusaka, Zambia.

Speaking at his reception of the debate champions, Engineer Ibrahim congratulated the debaters and expressed delight in the tremendous feat they had pulled. He noted that due to its commitment to the town-and-gown nexus, LUBCON would continue supporting the University of Ilorin and the tremendous achievements of its students.

During his speech at the reception, the Group Managing Director of LUBCON Group, Mr. Adesoji Fagbemi, pledged monetary support to the tune of #500,000 to the debate team. He remarked that LUBCON Group was pleased to receive the “champions of Africa,” and that the Group would continue to support the University of Ilorin.

Ably represented by the Sub-Dean of the Student Affairs Unit, Dr. Dave Ajewole, the Dean of Student Affairs Unit, University of Ilorin, Prof. M. T. Yakubu, thanked Engineer Ibrahim for the honourable reception of the debate team. He also expressed gratitude to the entire management of LUBCON Group for the monetary support pledged to the UNILORIN Debate Team.

Towards the end of the reception, the UNILORIN debate champions –a team of five debaters –appreciated Engineer Ibrahim and the entire LUBCON management for the reception and the monetary support pledged. The debate team comprised Olayinka Esther (Faculty of Agriculture), Olafisoye Tolulope (Faculty of Law), John-Kalo Peace (Faculty of Law), Ayodele Samuel (Faculty of Engineering), and Owolabi Victor (Faculty of Education).
