Following a thorough process of selection, the University of Ilorin has been selected as one of the universities in the China-Africa 100 Universities Cooperation Plan. The University has been paired with a Chinese University under the plan.

This was made known in a release from the Secretariat of the Association of African Universities (AAU) in Accra, Ghana on Thursday, 1st August 2024, signed by Ransford Okwabi Bekoe, the Partnerships Manager.

The partnership will be officially announced on 5th September 2024 in Beijing, China at the First China-Africa Universities Exchange Mechanism Conference; The First Exchange Mechanism Conference of China-Africa Consortium of Universities and China-Africa Higher Education Dialogue co-hosted by the China Association of Higher Education (CAHE) and the Association of African Universities (AAU) at the Beijing International Conference Centre in Beijing, China from 5 – 7 September 2024.
University of Ilorin was selected as one of the 100 Universities in Africa for this programme.

For the University, this is another remarkable milestone that highlights the hardwork and dedication that their current administration is putting into further developing their institution while ensuring that their educational tasks align with solving real world, real Nigerian problems.

The University of Ilorin is distinguished among numerous African universities for its selection in the China-Africa 100 Universities Cooperation Plan having been paired with North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power to establish academic linkages and educational collaboration to their mutual benefit, promote academic cooperation between the institutions in the fields of education, research, and cultural exchange.

The University’s selection is described as a “testament to its potential to foster academic collaboration, enhance research opportunities, and promote cultural exchange between Africa and China.”

The First China-Africa Universities Exchange Mechanism Conference will witness the signing of a few Memoranda of Understanding between the paired universities, in which the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole is present.

Discussions around the areas of collaboration will be furthered at the event with high hopes that the initiative will lead to lasting bonds between Africa and China in knowledge, research and innovation.
