The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) awarded Comrade Teslim Usman, the Lagos State Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), with the prestigious 2024 Presidential Outstanding Performance Award.
This honor, presented on October 9, 2024, recognizes Usman’s remarkable dedication and unwavering commitment to advancing transport services in Nigeria. His leadership and contributions within the sector have earned him significant praise, with the award acknowledging his efforts to improve operational efficiency and service delivery within the transportation industry.
The CILT lauded his consistent hard work, which has significantly impacted both the local and national logistics and transport landscape.
In another development, The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Secretary of the Lagos State chapter,Comrade Teslim Usman urged drivers to take driving etiquette seriously and adhere to professional standards.
Speaking on the podcast program “Road User Segment,” Usman emphasized that drivers must be at least 18 years old and should have both formal and informal training. Formal training involves attending certified driving schools, while informal training often comes from hands-on experience, such as starting out as a motor boy and learning from seasoned drivers.
Usman highlighted the importance of constant practice, stating that drivers must regularly be behind the wheel to refine their skills. He stressed that drivers should be certified and experienced, ensuring they follow all traffic rules and prioritize the safety of other road users. “A good driver considers the well-being of everyone on the road,” Usman said, underscoring that safety is a distinguishing factor for responsible drivers.
He also noted the crucial role drivers play in the economy, describing transportation as the backbone of every country. He encouraged drivers to remain proactive, with all their senses sharp, as their work is vital to the functioning of society.
