Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, has dismissed rumors of his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The senator, a founding member of the ruling party, reaffirmed his commitment to the APC in a statement released by his media aide, Nasif Sholagberu, yesterday in Ilorin.
The statement addressed recent social media reports alleging that Senator Mustapha had endorsed another party and planned to leave the APC. It described these claims as baseless fabrications aimed at tarnishing his image.
“We are aware of the false reports being circulated by known individuals with ulterior motives,” the statement read. “However, leadership and ambition are determined by God, not by smear campaigns.”
Senator Mustapha emphasized his focus on delivering quality representation to the people of Kwara Central and reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the APC. The statement highlighted his role as one of the signatories to the February 2013 agreement that formed the APC through the merger of three legacy parties.
“As a loyal member and contributor to the growth and success of the APC, Senator Mustapha remains committed to the party’s ideals,” the statement added.
The senator urged the public to disregard the rumors, describing them as the work of mischief-makers with no constructive agenda.
This clarification comes as part of Senator Mustapha’s continued efforts to focus on his mandate and uphold his responsibilities in the National Assembly.
