The Kwara State government has apprehended 164 individuals for violating the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Ilorin, the state capital. Among them, one person was arrested for allegedly assaulting sanitation officials and has been handed over to the police for prosecution.
The state’s Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Buge, who supervised the exercise, stated that the violators would be charged in court in line with the state’s sanitation laws. According to a statement by the ministry’s press secretary, Shakirat Muritala, the government remains committed to enforcing compliance to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
The commissioner praised residents of Ilorin for their cooperation during the exercise, noting that Kwara State is recognized for its efforts in eradicating indiscriminate waste disposal and promoting a disease free environment.
She also warned against flouting environmental laws, emphasizing that violators would face strict legal consequences.
