The Kwara State Police Command has successfully foiled two kidnap attempts and arrested four suspects in Baruten and Ifelodun local government areas.

In a statement yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department.

In Baruten LGA, two suspects, Tukur Muhammad and Yahaya Abdullahi, were arrested after attempting to extort a resident of Ajuba Fulani Camp, Ilesha Baruba. The victim discovered a note with phone numbers at his doorstep and was later threatened with kidnapping unless he paid a N20 million ransom, which was later reduced to N4 million. He reported the case to the police, leading to the suspects’ arrest.

Similarly, in Ifelodun LGA, the police apprehended Umar Sanni and Dairu Isiaku for criminal conspiracy and extortion. The suspects had threatened two individuals with kidnapping unless they paid N5 million. Their arrest was made possible through intelligence tracking of their phone numbers.

The Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, praised the officers for their swift action and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime. All four suspects have been charged to court and remanded in a federal correctional facility.
