The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed reports of an armed robbery attack at Eleyin village along the Ilorin, Omu Aran road on Sunday.

In a statement yesterday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, clarified that no robbery took place. Instead, the incident involved a misunderstanding between a vehicle owner, whose car broke down and some youths demanding money.

The police explained that at 6:00 PM on February 9, 2025, a distress call was received from Ibrahim Sai, who reported a suspected robbery. Officers from Omu Aran and Oke Onigbin divisions were immediately deployed. Upon arrival, they discovered that the disturbance was caused by the youths demanding “owo ilè” (land money) from the stranded driver.

Panicked bystanders mistook the altercation for a robbery, but no crime was committed and the youths fled when the police arrived. The situation has since been calm and under control.
