Dangote Group is strengthening its position in Nigeria’s automobile industry with the assembly of the Peugeot 3008 GT model at its Kaduna plant. This move marks a significant step in reviving the Peugeot brand in Nigeria, once the most popular car brand in the 1970s and 80s.
The company, which holds the franchise for Peugeot and Sinotruck, operates two assembly plants, one in Kaduna for passenger cars and another in Lagos for commercial trucks. The addition of the 3008 GT, featuring a 1.6-litre turbo engine, expands its lineup, which already includes the Peugeot 301 Sedan and the Peugeot 5008, a seven-seater SUV.
Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (DPAN) has also introduced the Peugeot Landtrek 4×2, a pickup truck with a 2.4-litre engine, entering the light commercial vehicle segment. The company is working to expand its sales and after-sales network by accrediting dealerships across the country to ensure better availability and customer support.
With its Kaduna plant capable of assembling 120 vehicles per day, DPAN is on a mission to restore the Peugeot brand’s presence in Nigeria. The company is a joint venture between Dangote Industries Limited, Kaduna, Plateau and Kebbi State Governments, and Stellantis Group, Peugeot’s parent company.
This expansion is expected to boost Nigeria’s automotive industry, create jobs and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
