President Bola Tinubu has assured that his administration is open to adopting successful global strategies to improve Nigeria’s telecom sector. Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with an Airtel delegation led by Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, Tinubu emphasized the need to enhance regulatory frameworks and protect infrastructure.
He stated that his government is willing to learn from other countries, including India, to drive business growth and improve the economy. “We are not ashamed to copy what works elsewhere. Nigeria is too important for us not to focus on innovative solutions that drive progress,” Tinubu said.
The President also reaffirmed his pro-business stance, assuring that tax reforms will create a more favorable investment climate. He pledged to work with tax administrators to encourage business growth and economic opportunities.
Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, praised Tinubu’s commitment to the telecom sector, highlighting the government’s recent approval of fibre optic and undersea cable protection as critical national assets. He noted that the National Security Adviser’s office has begun enforcing this policy.
Airtel Chairman Mittal commended Tinubu for implementing bold economic reforms, comparing Nigeria’s current transformation to India’s economic revival in the 1990s. He highlighted key policies such as the removal of petrol subsidies and the floating of the naira, describing them as tough but necessary decisions.
“These reforms have put Nigeria on the path to economic stability,” Mittal said, adding that Tinubu’s leadership is setting the foundation for long-term growth.
