President Bola Tinubu has reiterated that removing fuel subsidies was a crucial decision to protect the future of unborn generations. He made this statement at the inauguration of the National Youth Congress Planning Committee at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President emphasized his administration’s dedication to youth empowerment, stating that government policies are designed to create long term prosperity. He urged young people to take their future seriously, highlighting that investments in infrastructure and economic growth would discourage emigration and provide better opportunities at home.
“When you remove oil subsidies, you’re securing the future for young people. If we grow prosperity in Nigeria and empower our citizens, fewer people will want to leave,” Tinubu said. He added that his government is working to create an environment where youths can thrive, develop their potential, and contribute to national progress.
Tinubu also acknowledged the challenges the country faced initially but assured that the economy is improving. “At the start, things seemed difficult, but today, we are seeing progress. Prices are dropping, investor confidence is rising and technology is advancing. The opportunity to drive development is in your hands,” he stated.
Encouraging young leaders to speak up, he invited them to share their concerns and suggestions, promising that his administration would consider and implement ideas that promote national prosperity. He also called for greater use of technology and innovation in agriculture to boost food security.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, highlighted the importance of the upcoming youth conference, stating that it will promote engagement and ensure that young voices are heard in governance. The planning committee includes representatives from key ministries, civil society organizations and international partners like the World Bank.
Samson Itodo, a key member of the committee and Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, commended President Tinubu for prioritizing youth inclusion, emphasizing that their contributions are vital for national progress.
