China has expressed interest in deepening cultural ties with Nigeria, particularly in the creative and tourism sectors. The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, made this known during a meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, in Abuja yesterday.

Dunhai emphasized that China sees great potential in collaborating with Nigeria, especially as the demand for Nigerian music grows in the Chinese market. He highlighted opportunities for training, capacity building and tourism promotion through both online and offline programs.

“China is eager to explore cultural exchange opportunities that will allow Nigerian artists to access our market, where interest in Nigerian music is increasing. We are committed to strengthening ties across various sectors,” Dunhai stated.

The discussions also covered partnerships in technology development, animation, incubation programs for young creatives and improving visa processes for tourism and creative industry stakeholders.

Minister Musawa welcomed the proposal, affirming President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to expanding bilateral relations and economic cooperation. She also outlined Nigeria’s plans to develop tourism infrastructure, citing destinations like Yankari Game Reserve, Obudu Ranch Resort and Erin-Ijesha Waterfall as sites for potential revitalization, drawing inspiration from global tourism hubs like Dubai and Mexico.

Both countries look forward to working together to drive innovation, boost economic growth and strengthen cultural ties.
