The Kwara State Government has revoked all billboard and signage licences issued in 2024, with enforcement set to begin next week. Authorities will also start identifying and removing unauthorised billboards across the state.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the Chairman of the Kwara State Task Force Committee on Illegal Billboards and Signages, Bolanle Olukoju, who is also the Commissioner for Communications. He stated that the revocation follows an earlier suspension of billboard licences in the state.
According to Olukoju, the decision is part of efforts to remove unauthorised billboards, posters and banners across Ilorin and other urban areas. He noted that this move aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s Urban Renewal Programme, aimed at making Kwara more modern and visually appealing.
The government also confirmed that no new billboard registrations or renewals will be processed until further notice. The temporary measure will allow the state to establish a new regulatory framework for outdoor advertising.
Officials have already begun identifying non compliant billboards and owners of unregistered structures are urged to take them down immediately. Enforcement actions will follow for those who fail to comply.
