The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission has shortlisted 1,800 candidates for teaching appointments in public secondary schools across the state.

According to a statement by the commission’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onile, the applicants were selected after a rigorous screening process that included computer-based tests and interviews conducted over three months.

Of the 1,800 shortlisted applicants, 790 were chosen for STEM subjects, 581 for core subjects, 370 for specialised subjects and 59 for technical subjects. They will be deployed to senior secondary schools in the 16 local government areas of Kwara based on a needs assessment.

Shortlisted candidates are required to check their status on the commission’s portal. Those selected will undergo a mandatory drug test, which will be conducted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The exercise will be coordinated by Hon. Mukail Aileru, the Governor’s Special Assistant on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control.

The drug test is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, to Saturday, April 12, 2025. Candidates from Baruten, Edu, Kaiama and Patigi will be tested on April 9; those from Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun and Isin on April 10; Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun and Moro on April 11; and Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Ilorin West on April 12. Test results will be submitted directly to the commission by NDLEA to prevent tampering.

Successful candidates will also sign a six-year bond not to request transfers, especially to address teacher shortages in rural communities.

Additionally, candidates must present medical certificates from state owned hospitals, original copies of their credentials for verification, and submit photocopies for record keeping. They are also required to write and submit a handwritten letter accepting the job offer. Other terms of employment will be explained during the documentation process.
