Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has accused major oil marketers and traders of undermining the success of his $20 billion refinery in Lekki, Lagos. He clarified that his statements about facing challenges in the sector were not directed at the new leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), which he has praised for its efforts.

Dangote commended President Bola Tinubu for assembling a “capable leadership team” at NNPC, including the appointments of Mr. Bayo Ojulari as Group CEO and Mr. Ahmadu Kida as Non-Executive Chairman. He said the new leadership brings a wealth of experience and technical expertise, which is vital for driving reform and innovation in Nigeria’s energy sector.

“The leadership at NNPC is committed to operational excellence and long-term sustainability, and we are confident they will align with the President’s vision of a $1 trillion economy,” Dangote stated.

Dangote made it clear that his ongoing battle to ensure the success of his refinery was against certain oil marketers and traders who are resistant to the reforms and changes in the sector. He noted that these individuals, who have profited from government-subsidized oil imports, are actively working to sabotage his refinery and frustrate President Tinubu’s efforts to improve the economy.

He expressed full confidence in the new NNPC leadership’s commitment to reform, efficiency and transparency, and reiterated his own dedication to supporting Nigeria’s energy security and growth.
