Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have dismissed recent endorsements for President Bola Tinubu by All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and stakeholders, describing them as signs of fear and desperation ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement released by Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, the opposition said it remains confident in its ability to unseat the APC, adding that Nigerians, not political endorsements, will decide the next president.

“When you’re fully prepared for an exam, you sleep well the night before. That’s our position,” Ibe said. “Nigerians are struggling under Tinubu’s government, Food is expensive, healthcare is hard to access and insecurity is getting worse. Instead of addressing these issues, the government is chasing political games.”

He also accused the APC of using anti-corruption agencies to pressure opposition members into defecting, claiming some defections were forced as a way to avoid prosecution.

Backing the statement, PDP’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, said endorsements don’t guarantee election wins. He reminded Nigerians that former President Goodluck Jonathan was endorsed by 21 governors in 2014 but still lost.

“Tinubu may have 22 endorsements, but that doesn’t mean anything if people are not satisfied with his leadership,” Bature said. “Endorsements are just for show. What matters is whether you’ve truly delivered for the people.”
