The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has launched a sensitisation campaign to ensure the full implementation of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) across the federal civil service.

NSITF Managing Director, Oluwaseun Faleye, led the campaign team to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service in Abuja to kick off the service wide initiative. The scheme provides compensation for workers who suffer injuries, illnesses, disabilities, or death while on duty.

The Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Esther Walson-Jack, pledged full support, stating that the ECS is a vital part of the government’s welfare efforts. She expressed her commitment to ensure the scheme is fully integrated into the civil service by 2025.

Faleye emphasized that NSITF remains focused on breaking down the barriers delaying implementation. He noted that while others focused on housing and healthcare under the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 2025), NSITF stayed committed to social protection through the ECS.

He thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the payment of outstanding federal government obligations under the scheme, adding that NSITF is working closely with the Ministries of Budget and Finance to ensure prompt payments.

Faleye also highlighted progress in clearing past dues and confirmed that payments are ongoing. “Our goal is to ensure federal workers are protected, and the ECS becomes a reality,” he said.

Walson Jack described the scheme as a long awaited initiative. “This is another major step forward for civil service welfare. We will give NSITF all the support it needs to make the scheme fully operational this year,” she said.

She also thanked President Tinubu for his continued support for civil servants, adding that the ECS complements other recent welfare programs like the Group Life Assurance Scheme approved by the Federal Executive Council.
