Former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has congratulated Nigerian poet and spoken word artist, Maryam Hassan (Alhanislam), on her appointment as a United Nations Global Advocate for Peace.
In a post on today, Atiku described her as a “gifted poet and fierce voice for justice,” praising her work for empowering and uniting people through art and advocacy.
He recalled how Hassan once captured his political journey through spoken word and celebrated her elevation as “a proud moment for Nigeria and for young African women.”
The UN announced Hassan’s appointment last week, recognizing her advocacy for peace, gender equity, education, and human rights through poetry.
Originally from Borno State, she has performed at the African Union, UN Headquarters, and worked with global organizations to promote healing and peace in conflict-affected communities.
