ABUJA — Newly confirmed INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, has pledged to make elections so credible that losers will willingly congratulate winners.

Speaking before the Senate during his confirmation, Amupitan said he would work with agencies like NIMC and NCC to achieve transparent polls.

“Our goal is to make elections so fair that even the loser accepts the result in good faith,” he said.

After a three-hour screening, the Senate unanimously approved his appointment. Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged him to ensure every vote counts.

Amupitan succeeds Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who served as INEC Chairman for 10 years before stepping down on October 7.

The Kogi-born law professor clarified that he was never part of the President’s, PDP’s, or Labour Party’s legal teams during the election petitions.
