ABUJA — The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has dismissed claims that the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s donation of seven hybrid CNG 18-seater buses was politically motivated or linked to the 2027 elections.
Speaking during the group’s National Convention and bus presentation in Abuja, YOWICAN National Chairman, Ambassador Belusochukwu Michael Enwere, said the gesture was aimed at supporting evangelism, youth empowerment, and community development.
“These buses were not donated with any political intent. The First Lady made it clear they are meant to aid our gospel work across the zones,” Enwere stated.
He explained that one bus was allocated to the national secretariat and six to zonal offices to boost the mobility and outreach of Christian youths nationwide. Enwere noted that the CNG-powered vehicles are affordable and environmentally friendly, costing as little as ₦3,000–₦4,000 to fill for up to seven hours of use.
The YOWICAN leader commended Senator Tinubu for her support and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promotion of CNG as part of Nigeria’s energy transition. He also urged the government to act swiftly against rising killings of Christians in Northern Nigeria, calling for justice and improved security.
“Our theme, ‘Shine Bright: Reflecting God’s Glory’ reminds us that in a morally challenged society, we must be beacons of light,” Enwere said, encouraging youths to uphold faith, love, and forgiveness.
Representing CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, Apostle (Prof.) Samson Fatokun urged the youths to embrace holiness and hard work, while Rev. Ini Ukpuho encouraged them to live as examples in word, faith, and purity.
The convention concluded with thanksgiving prayers and the formal handover of the seven hybrid CNG buses to YOWICAN’s national and zonal chapters.
