Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, says President Bola Tinubu has made the wellbeing of Nigerian children a top priority, with long-term investments aimed at shaping their development.
Speaking at UNICEF’s World Children’s Day celebration in Abuja, Bagudu expressed confidence that Nigerian children still have a promising future despite current security and economic challenges.
His remarks follow the recent abduction of students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.
He reassured the nation that the President remains committed to supporting children and improving teacher education.
Bagudu said: “Despite today’s challenges, a great future lies ahead for our children. The President is committed to giving them the maximum support they need to grow.”
He also called for prayers for the abducted students and other children in captivity worldwide, urging global leaders to treat child abductions as an attack on humanity.
Respecting Children’s Rights Key to a Fair Society — First Lady
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, in her World Children’s Day message themed “Listen to Children: My Day, My Rights,” urged Nigerians to recommit to protecting and empowering every child.
She emphasized the importance of giving children a platform to share their experiences and aspirations, noting that respecting their rights is essential to building a compassionate society.
Mrs. Tinubu added that children are not just future leaders but active contributors today, and listening to them helps create a safer and more inclusive environment.
