President Bola Tinubu has restated his administration’s commitment to the welfare, professionalism, and operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army at the opening of the Chief of Army Annual Conference 2025 in Lagos. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu pledged continued support for the Armed Forces to enable them carry out their constitutional duties.

He praised serving and retired military officers for their sacrifices and leadership, noting that the conference provides a platform for strategic reflection and improvement amid evolving security challenges. Defence Minister, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, described the conference as vital for assessing readiness and aligning operations with national security priorities, stressing joint and inter-agency collaboration.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, thanked the president and National Assembly for sustained support, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to combating terrorism and other security threats. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also commended the Army’s role in maintaining peace. The conference will deliberate on key issues to further strengthen the Nigerian Army, with the unveiling of a biography of late COAS, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, as part of its activities.
