MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 21% increase in the subscription fee for its DStv Compact package, raising the price from ₦15,700 to ₦19,000, effective March 1, 2025.
This comes less than a year after a similar price hike in May 2024, which the company attributed to inflation and rising operational costs. In a notice sent to customers on Monday, MultiChoice explained that the adjustment was part of a pricing review to ensure continued access to quality content.
While the DStv Compact package is affected, the company confirmed that Compact Plus (₦30,000) and Premium (₦44,500) prices remain unchanged.
The announcement has sparked widespread criticism, with many subscribers expressing frustration over frequent price increases without an improvement in service quality. Customers took to social media to complain about repetitive content, service interruptions and lack of competition in the pay-TV market.
Some users suggested that more people would explore alternatives, while others called for a boycott. Critics argue that MultiChoice’s dominance in the market allows it to raise prices without fear of losing subscribers.
The latest increase adds to concerns over the rising cost of living in Nigeria, with some questioning how essential services continue to get more expensive without significant improvements.
