The Federal Government has warned Nigerians to stay away from fake offers of contracts, loans and financial grants allegedly endorsed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In a statement released yesterday, the CBN’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi-Ali, said the bank had once again noticed fraudulent messages being circulated by individuals and groups claiming to represent the CBN.

“These fraudsters are promoting fake offers of contracts, intervention funds and other financial benefits. The CBN has not authorised any person or organisation to act on its behalf in such matters,” she said.

Despite a public warning issued in November 2024, these scams continue to target innocent people using phone calls, SMS, emails, WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

The apex bank made it clear that it does not give out contracts or disburse funds through unsolicited messages and does not work with intermediaries or third parties to provide financial services.

Nigerians are strongly advised not to engage with anyone making such claims and to report suspicious activity to security agencies or the nearest CBN branch.

The bank also restated its commitment to protecting citizens and said it is working with law enforcement to stop these fraudulent activities.
