The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School in Adeta, Ilorin, due to repeated cases of student unrest.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, on Wednesday. The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said the decision was taken to restore peace and protect lives and property.
The schools have witnessed violent clashes among students, disruption of academic activities and damage to school facilities.
Only students currently sitting for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) and their teachers will be allowed on school grounds during the exam period. These students must wear their identification cards while on the premises.
Parents and guardians are advised to keep their children at home. The Commissioner also warned that security agents will arrest any student found violating the closure order.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring safety in all public schools.
