The Federal Government has started paying the ₦35,000 wage award arrears to federal civil servants across the country.

This was confirmed in a statement released yesterday by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF). The statement noted that several workers have already received the payment, while others will get theirs soon.

Director of Press at the OAGF, Bawa Mokwa, assured that all outstanding payments will be made in line with the government’s promise to workers. The wage award is being paid in monthly installments of ₦35,000 over five months.

The payment is part of a relief package agreed upon in 2023 following the removal of fuel subsidy.

The OAGF also addressed reports claiming the wage award was excluded from the 2025 budget. It clarified that the Accountant General, Babatunde Ogunjimi, never made such a statement and has not addressed the press on the issue.

Last month, the OAGF stated that the first part of the arrears would be paid immediately after the April 2025 salaries were processed.

The government previously promised to resume and complete the wage award payments, reaffirming its commitment to support federal workers during tough economic times.
