Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (Rtd), has expressed confidence that Nigeria’s security situation will improve within the next two years under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
Speaking during the 2025 VON Forum in Abuja, Buratai said that while every country faces its own challenges including developed nations, Nigeria is on the path to better security. He noted that insecurity, like other societal crimes such as robbery or rape, cannot be completely eradicated but can be managed through consistent and strategic efforts.
Buratai emphasized that recent lessons from security challenges have strengthened the resolve and preparedness of Nigeria’s armed forces and other security agencies. He also called for stronger collaboration between federal, state and local governments to address security issues more effectively.
According to him, citizen engagement and shared responsibility are key, rather than leaving everything to the federal government. He added that manpower development and institutional capacity building are essential to national security.
Buratai stressed the importance of fully implementing national security and defence policies, noting that proper coordination among all stakeholders is critical to achieving lasting results.
