Civil society organisation, Citizen Monitors, has expressed concern over the alleged removal of election results including those from the 2024 Ondo and Edo governorship elections from the official portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued today by its spokesperson, Olajumoke Alawode-James, the group said the unexplained disappearance of electoral data raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

Citizen Monitors posed several questions to INEC, including whether the commission has a formal data retention policy, what the terms and access rights are, and whether such a policy was ever made public. The group also questioned whether the data removal was due to a technical glitch, system failure, or the possible expiration of INEC’s hosting agreement with Amazon Web Services.

According to the group, the removal of the results without clear explanation undermines public confidence and limits access to critical electoral information for citizens, stakeholders, and international observers.
