In a bid to explore avenues for enhancing university administration amidst the ever-evolving global landscape, the 4th Registry Annual Lecture took place yesterday, 30th April, at the university auditorium. With the theme “Building an Excellent and Sustainable University Administration in the Midst of Global Dynamism.” 

The event featured two distinguished speakers, Dr. Bola Adekola, former registrar of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and Dr. Rebecca Okojie, registrar of the Federal University, Lokoja who spoke on Record management: registry as an institutional memory and Mentoring and Succession Planning in the University respectively. 

Dr. Adekola’s lecture discussed the registry’s central role as the custodian of institutional memory within universities. He elucidated how effective record management practices enable registries to serve as repositories of vital information, facilitating informed decision-making, continuity, and accountability within academic institutions.

He spoke on the evolving landscape of record management in the digital age, discussing the challenges and opportunities posed by technological advancements. He emphasized the need for universities to adapt to digital record-keeping systems while ensuring the security, integrity, and accessibility of their archival data.

Following Dr. Adekola’s lecture, Dr. Rebecca Okojie came up with a most engaging presentation on Mentoring and Succession Planning in the University. 

Sharing her experiences before emerging the Registrar at the Federal University, Lokoja; Dr. Okojie provided a complementary viewpoint, focusing on practical strategies for maintaining sustainability in university administration.

She highlighted the need for strategic succession planning by nurturing talent and cultivating a culture of leadership development within academic institutions. She elucidated the importance of investing in training and professional development initiatives to empower existing staff members and prepare them for future leadership roles. By providing opportunities for skill enhancement, mentorship, and career advancement, universities can foster a pipeline of capable leaders capable of navigating complex challenges and driving institutional growth.

The event had a vibrant Q&A session, during which attendees had the opportunity to further explore the themes discussed by the speakers, while the event ended with an award session.

The university registrar, Mr. M. A. Alfanla expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole for his unwavering commitment to the development of the Registry.

Overall, the 4th Registry Annual Lecture proved to be a resounding success, providing a platform for insightful dialogue and meaningful exchange of ideas aimed at fostering excellence and sustainability in university administration amidst the dynamic global landscape.
